Poster project - Scott Bieser responds

Scott, as you may recall, is the artist who illustrated
ADrugWarCarol.com, who I approached about illustrating a poster for us.
Here is the email I just got from him:

I apologize for not responding to you sooner.

The fact is that I've been extraordinarily busy of late, and this is
not likely to change for the forseable future. I hate to have to tell
this to a long-time activist, but I really can't afford to take time
off from building my new business to do unpaid work, which is what this
sounds like. My wife had to leave her job recently for medical reasons
and I have even less money than I have time, with a mortgage and two
children to care for.

If I'm mistaken, and there is someone willing to fund this project,
then I might be able to postpone some other paying project in order to
do this. (For what you describe, a ball-park estimate would be $350 for
full-color work, or $200 for black-and-white work, or $250 for
black-plus-one-color.

What do you guys think? My choice would be to go ahead and have him do
full-color, and I will throw down $75 myself if we go that route. This
is assuming we'd be getting full ownership rights -- that way we could
recoup costs by charging a nominal licensing fee to other LP groups
wishing to produce the posters for themselves (. But $350 is more than
we anticipated paying for art. I think Morey had a lead on someone who
might do it free or cheap, and I've got a friend who's interested too,
but I don't know that they can do anything like the kind of work I know
Scott can. I haven't yet raised the idea of giving him free advertising
space in the newsletter and on our website as partial payment.
Opinions? What do we have in pledges so far?

Yours in liberty,

I don't believe we intended to ask Scott to do all that work for
free. I think the black and white with one color option is a very
doable idea for the LPSF. My notes show $290 in pledges specifically
for this poster.

Personally, I would say let's do it. If our Bylaws gurus, who are
averse to us making decisions on the e-mail list, have objections,
please let them speak now :-]
