Alan J. Auerbach is the Robert D. Burch Professor of Economics and Law,
University of California, Berkeley, and the director of the Burch Center for
Tax Policy and Public Finance. He is the former chair of the economics
department at the University of California, Berkeley, and he has also taught
at Harvard University, Yale University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Professor Auerbach has a BA from Yale University and a PhD in economics from
Harvard University.
William E. Simon, Jr. is co-founder of the investment firm William E. Simon
and Sons. In 2002, he ran for governor of California and was defeated by a
four-point margin in the general election. Mr. Simon is on the board of many
charitable entities, including Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Covenant
House of California, and the William E. Simon Foundation. Mr. Simon holds a
BA from Williams College and a JD from Boston College Law School.
