Overpoliced Jericho, Arkansas: Population - 174, Police Officers - 7

Unfortunately this over-abundance of police "protection" did not stop a fire chief from being shot there in cold blood a week ago. Indeed, it was one of the cops who shot him, when he got upset over traffic tickets that Jericho police have a reputation as being eager to give out. It can't be definitively stated that this was another case of "your tax dollars at work," as the source of the "grant money" the town received to start its own police force is not specified. But the timing of the grant arriving in the 1990s, as well as the fact that we're talking about a small town in *Arkansas*, suggests that the funding may have been part of President Clinton's pork-barrel plan to put "100,000 more local police on the streets" (see http://www.fff.org/freedom/fd0206d.asp). Oh, and there is also a mystery over where the money from all the traffic tickets went. But hey, the important thing is that we have lots of police officers so we can feel safe. Right?
