OT: Obama's National Electronic Health Information Technology System - Lessons From Britain (Fraser Nelson and Irwin M. Stelzer, Weekly Standard, 7/27/09)

Where the authors here use the word "liberal," I would say "authoritarian" or "pro-government" instead. Trying to identify liberals with big systems shows a conservative bias -- after all, there are cases where conservatives tend to be fonder of big systems than people on the left: Big box stores, big corporations, a big U.S. military, etc.

But aside from that minor fault, this article provides a detailed and useful look at what happened in Britain when the National Health Service tried to achieve cost savings by computerizing medical records and systems and creating a single national standard, as the Obama administration has hinted it wants to do in the U.S.
