Michael, tecnically you are correct in that the resolutions were not
denominated "Declaration of War." There is, however, much legal precedent that
such resolutions create a state of war at least to the extent of permitting the
President to exercise his war powers of command and control. That's where we
are now. We are in a long war, not of our choosing, and we better win it. The
one thing sovereigns are good at is killing people and destroying property, a
reason that they are so dangerous. These proclivities should be put to work in
our defense against Islamists who have shown that they both want to and will
kill us with abandon and destroy our property. How to discipline the sovereign
remains my big question.
