OBAMACARE AND HOW TO FIGHT IT!!!

Dear All;

With the Obamunists pushing shoving and doing
everything they can to creat a new health care plan
this year we as Libertarians need to have ready
talking points against ObamaCare which will
probably a warmed over version of HillaryCare.

These talking points are from Republican consultant
Frank Luntz who has extensively researched the very
best ways to persuade the public to reject the federal
takeover of our healthcare system.

First, Luntz says it is vitally important to acknowledge to
your listeners that there truly is a serious problem with
healthcare in America. Failure to acknowledge this,
and failure to be for some kind of serious reform of
the current health care mess, will lead your listener to
ignore everything else you say.

Fully 70% of Americans, according to Luntz's research,
feel the current system is seriously flawed and needs
reform.

However, you must point out that turning this huge and
vitally important industry over to the government will
make things far worse for them and their families.
Government, in this area as in others, is not the solution
-- it is the problem.

* Refer to the proposed plan as "a federal takeover" or
"a government takeover" of our health system. Describe
it as a "politician-run system" or a "Washington-run system."

* Point out that federal healthcare means federal control
and rationing. "In countries with government run healthcare,
politicians make YOUR healthcare decisions. THEY decide
if you'll get the procedure you need, or if you are
disqualified because the treatment is too expensive or
because you are too old. We can't have that in America."

* "The federal takeover of our health system will deny
people treatments they need and make them wait to
get the treatments they are allowed to receive."

* "This will lead to politicians setting standards of care,
instead of doctors who actually know what's best
for you, the patient."

* "This will lead to the government rationing care,
making people stand in line and denying treatment
-- like they already do in other countries with
national healthcare."

Luntz says: "Nothing will anger Americans more
than the chance that they and their loved ones will
be denied the healthcare they need for whatever reason."

* "They want to put politicians and Washington
bureaucrats in charge of your healthcare and your
children's healthcare."

* "One-size-does-NOT-fit-all." Luntz notes that
the idea that a "committee of Washington bureaucrats"
will establish the standard of care for all Americans
and decide who gets what treatment based on how
much it costs is offensive and abhorrent to Americans.

While Luntz makes his points the one crucial area he
and everyone else neglects are on the doctor and the
nurse and the medical technician side. Where are all
the doctors going to come from when everyone has
healthcare. In Massachusetts people are waiting a year
to get sheduled for a physical exam because there
aren't enough doctors to go around.

Magnify this on a national scale and you get havoc.

Top this by all the Baby Boomer doctors and nurses
and medical technicians taking retirement to get off
the treadmill and with fewer and fewer replacements
coming through the pipeline. Then top this by the level
of graduates government K-12 schools spew and eject
and you have less and less people who are even basically
qualified to go to pre-med and medical college and
complete an internship and residency.

Get government and the AMA out of the healthcare
business completely which also means shutting down
Medicare and Medicaid and the HMO Act of 1970
doing away with all the state mandates which insurers
have to include to be authorized to operate within a
state and so on and so on and so on.

Ron,

I like how Frank Luntz distinguishes here between government on one hand and people on the other -- "THEY decide" and "YOUR healthcare decisions." Unfortunately, he undermines that paradigm in the following sentence where he says "We can't have that in America" (as if "America" is the only place where this would be wrong, and implicitly lumping the politicians and the people together as "we").

And of course it's true that the real free market solution is ending the cartel of groups like the AMA.
