NYTimes.com: After Iowa Raid, Immigrants Fuel Labor Inquiries

Dear Everyone; The ICE raid at the kosher meat packing plant in Postville,IA continues to have repercussions. This article is about the workers and the plant working conditions and what is turning out to be violations of labor laws. Oh my - lions and tigers and bears. One wonders how many people around the area could be working at the plant but were "cut out of the jobs" because illegal immigrants were hired instead. Or were illegal immigrants hired because the local people wouldn't apply for jobs? Or were the combined welfare unemployment checks better than the pay at the plant? One wonders. However, despite this the ICE and Justice Department handling of the raid and charges and specifications against the immigrants were abhorrent.
