Non-libertarian hell

Trump is in a similar league as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Peter Thiel, Elon Musk.
I'm sure he exceeds all of them – in his own mind.
Unresponsive.
I also suspect Trump wouldn't mind being compared to Mussolini so much, if it weren't for the low opinion most voters have of fascism. He's expressed admiration for Vladimir Putin and other tyrants.
Ridiculous.
What promises has Johnson made that you think he can't deliver on.
All of them, including winning the presidency.
Do you think I would "go statist" on you?
Why would anyone think that? You merely plan to vote for a Republican presidential candidate who isn't even from the libertarian-leaning wing of that half of the cartel in a year when Libertarians have a better chance at the White House than at any time in the party's history.

Johnson hasn't promised he'd win the presidency. Anyway, that's not the kind of promise I'm concerned about a politician breaking. It's the ones about what they'll do after they get into office that matter.

Here's what Trump said about Putin, and I agree it's ridiculous – or would be, if Trump were just a pompous laughing-stock character on the Simpsons or something, and not an establishment party nominee for U.S. president in real life:

“(Putin's) got a tremendous popularity in Russia, they love what he’s doing, they love what he represents. I was over in Moscow two years ago and I will tell you—you can get along with those people and get along with them well. You can make deals with those people. Obama can’t. I would be willing to bet I would have a great relationship with Putin. It’s about leadership.” [from http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/06/18/these-are-the-dictators-donald-trump-loves.html ]

"Leadership!" What a nice euphemism to apply to a dictator. They must love that.

There's also that old saying about the company you keep. Until mid August, Donald Trump's campaign manager and top aide was a guy with a shady history of business deals with Russian oligarchs, arms merchants, and others, not to mention lobbying for notorious dictators like Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines and Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire (now Congo).

You really can't make this stuff up.

If you had a time machine and were able to go back and tell Republican voters several years ago that one of the leading candidates for president in 2016 would be voicing respect and admiration for a Russian dictator, even inviting him to leak emails hacked from his main rival, after putting in charge of his campaign a man who had been a lobbyist and image-maker for other dictators in Third World countries, and asked them whether they could support a candidate like this, how many of them do you think would have said yes? Most of them probably would have assumed you were talking a Democrat, and would be voicing alarm and outrage. Funny how a little perceived political expediency can change things!
