Why is Newsom going after the city's massage parlors? Is he throwing a
bone to the "center" of his party? What an incredible waste of taxpayer
resources.

This is a follow-up to a massive federal raid (part of which I got to watch
random massage parlors that were targeted, but three of the ones raided by
the feds.

Not that that makes it OK, but this is part of the modern law-enforcement
approach of "pile as many charges on the accused as possible so as to make
sure they get convicted of *something*."

Derek Jensen:

but the SF health-code enforcement is something totally apart from ICE's
actions. Couldn't local SF just leave them alone? Seems to me that Newsom
is
going out of his way to please someone.

Well, sure. As the mayor of a major American city, he is reliant on
federal goodwill for a bunch of stuff, from homeless assistance to mass
transit to drug rehab programs.

As Starchild will recall, we met with him when he was still a supervisor,
and encouraged him to introduce a resolution condemning the War on Some
Drugs. His response was that, though he was personally opposed to the
WoSD, he had also just pushed through a methadone proposal that was
reliant on $100,000 in federal money, and he couldnt afford to piss off
the feds.

my bet is on Kamala. This has been on her agenda since
she got into office -
