Rob Power could do a lot, I think, by keeping us informed about any Commonwealth Club plans for a forum on Prop. 14. I should be a member of the Commonwealth Club, but I am not. I am debating Steve Peace (a former State Senator from San Diego who is a big proponent of Prop. 14) in Escondido on April 10. I have also spoken against Prop. 14 in front of the San Francisco Forum Club, and I attended a debate in San Diego on Prop. 14 between the state chair of the Calif. Republican Party (who is on our side) versus a former state legislator. Also today I took Christina Tobin to the Santa Clara city chamber of commerce board meeting, where she spoke against Prop. 14, and the community relations guy for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group spoke for it. We don't know what they will do. I am hoping they decide to stay neutral.
So, my point is, I am really well-steeped in the debate on this issue and if the Commonwealth Club wants an opponent, I feel capable and I hope to be asked.
Any of us can raise the subject in our conversations with friends. If any of us spots any meetings in which groups are hearing from proponents and opponents of the various June ballot measures, please let me know. My phone is 415-922-9779.
