I signed the petition and added, "Police who do this should be prosecuted and sentence to life for MURDER."
Yes, I really do feel that way.
Please join me in signing the petition if you feel even half as strongly as I do about this.

My dog Lily was wrongfully killed by a police officer. Now I'm calling for mandatory animal training for all police in Texas.

Nina -
On May 26th, 2012, my husband and I lost our lovable border collie Lily when she was shot and killed on our front porch by a police officer responding to a call at the wrong address. My husband told the approaching officer to wait while he put our dogs inside -- but instead the officer shot "the dog closest to him." After she was killed, our lives changed forever.
Lily's needless killing is unfortunately one of many dog shootings by untrained police officers across the country this year.
We started a petition on Change.org when Lily was shot -- and our city's police department enacted an eight-hour mandatory animal training for its officers. But we don't want other dog owners in Texas to go through the same horrifying experience of seeing their beloved animal shot and killed in front of them, so we're asking for the entire state of Texas to make animal training mandatory for all police officers. Click here to sign our petition.
When an officer shoots an animal, they're killing members of a family. Lily was more than just our dog, and she can never be replaced. Police officers should never resort to killing pets because they are not better trained to deal with animals in different circumstances.
These shootings are not only tragic for the owners, but often happen in front of other people, putting bystanders at risk. If Fort Worth, the town we live in, can make animal training mandatory for officers, the entire state can do the same.
Join my husband and I in calling on the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education to make officer training for animal encounters mandatory.
Thank you.
