Hi Nick. Thanks--excellently detailed and so timely too! The only things
I would change are the number of newsletter recipients was 296 and perhaps
add a few words that we're currently working on trying to get hold of our
federal tax ID number, which we would need to open a new account with any
credit union.
By the way, All, though we did not decide anything 100% firm yet for the
Tax Day/4th Annual Whatever We Call It Event, it looks like the Sanctuary
Cities issue will be the topic this year, so let's get started on rounding
up some panelists and booking the room at the Main Library. (Starchild, if
you want to cook up something with the Greens in their upcoming meetings,
that could work as a separate ongoing project, and I would support that,
but as I mentioned already, it was pretty hopeless working with them for
our April event, and I basically wasted 2 months and got nowhere with
them.) I favor asking Jeff Adachi to be one of the panelists since several
of us supported him during his mayoral run, and I think he might
reciprocate by agreeing to join the panel. If he's not interested, there
are plenty others like David Campos, Eric Mar, and Jane Kim. Lisa Remmer
said she would check with her GOP colleagues and see if she could get maybe
Ken Lui, John Dennis (I'm not sure on his stance), or Howard Epstein to
voice the other side of the issue (taxpayer cost). Starchild said he's
aware of plenty of immigrant rights groups and a representative from one of
them would be a good thing, so perhaps we'll have more panelists this time
since it's a nice meaty issue. Please voice your thoughts. I want to get
things going!
Thanks, Les, for schlepping over to the Bank of America branch. I'm amazed
they even gave you that much information--everyone is so paranoid these
days. Since we would need the letter anyway, it's probably hopeless to
waste much more time on trying to work with the current tax ID number,
though I may take a stab at calling the IRS myself (later in the month) now
that we have part of the number and see if I can extract a letter from
them. I would think they wouldn't want us to obtain a second number and
would help us get the first one back, but then again that's government--and
what could I be thinking?!
Thanks!
Aubrey
