Warren Redlich was never a member of the Libertarian Party. He never
joined, never paid his dues, never signed the pledge. He has never said he
was a Libertarian. He was trying to run as the candidate for every party,
except the Democrats. He sought the Republican, Conservative, Working
Family and Green party nominations. According to the by-laws of the New
York Libertarian, he was not allowed to be a candidate of the Libetarian
Party as he had not previously been a member. Those by-laws were passed
after the Howard Stern debacle just to stop an outsider such as Warren
Redlich from coming in to steal the nomination.
Warren Redlich was Mark Axinn's candidate. Mark Axinn brought in a bunch of
ringers none of whom had been seen before nor since at a Libertarian party
meeting. Those ringers voted for Warren Redlich. No minutes of that meeting
have ever been produced. Witnesses have stated that they saw Mark Axinn
stuffing the ballot box which Mark Axinn personally carried around. As to
why Mark Axinn was so much in love with Warren Redlich, we do not know nor
understand.
All the New York Party regular members voted for me except for the Mark
Axinn Group.
Warren Redlich did no campaigning at all except that he appeared in the TV
debates.
The end result was that Warren Redlich got 48,359 votes, not because of his
personal appeal but because this was an open election with no incumbents
running. The New York Libertarian Party finished last among all the regular
parties, behind the Green, Conservative, Independence and Working Family
Parties.
Because we were so close, with 48,359 votes and 50,000 required to be
recognized as a political party by the New York State Board of Elections,
all we had to do was get another 1700 votes which were readily available by
counting absentee ballots.
Instead of that easily accomplished task, Mark Axinn blew it by not filing
on time. As everybody knows there is a three-day statute of limitations.
You must file within three days to ask for a recount or a change in the
count. Mark Axinn says he did not know about this and did not file for that
reason. Warren Redlich bills himself as an election law attorney plus he
was based in Albany New York so he could easily have filed in Albany within
the three days. Instead, Warren Redlich did nothing, nothing at all to
defend his candidacy.
Instead of doing his job as chairman, Mark Axinn has devoted himself for
the past seven years to kicking me and Tom Stevens out of the party even
though we have been the party much longer than he has. As usual, Mark Axinn
blames or credits others for doing this but it was Mark Axinn who was
chairman of the meeting that did this in gross violation of Roberts Rules
of Order. Ever since, Mark Axinn has devoted himself to stopping me and Tom
Stevens from rejoining the party with our only offense being that we did
not accept his choice of Warren Redlich as Libertarian Party Candidate for
New York Governor.
