[LPC County Officers] Current list of announced LP candidates for2008

Folks, San Diego has 11 candidates and we have only one, Come on folks. Step up to the plate.

I desperately need a treasurer if I am to run any kind of campaign. and I need a manager.

If a better candidate steps up to the plate for Congress, I will gladly step aside, as just staying alive and keeping healthy is a big priority for me.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'm potentially willing to run
again, but I want to see some support. Being a candidate takes time
and money, and it's not much fun when next to nobody is doing
anything to help. Here are a list of offices that will be voted on in
the Nov. 4, 2008 election (from http://www.sfgov.org/site/
elections_index.asp?id=61062 ) for which we can run candidates at the
local level:

While I'd love to see an active Libertarian campaign for Supervisor
(alas, my District 6 isn't open until 2010), I'd say paper campaigns
for Supervisor are a waste of time and money. And everyone seems too
busy to do more than a paper campaign.

However, paper campaigns for the five partisan offices below (2
Congress, 3 State Legislator) are still helpful, because it gets the
Libertarian brand back on the ballot and in front of voters' eyes.

I'm in Pelosi's district and have no more free time than Phil to
campaign, so I'll support Phil for that. For me, that leaves State
Senate (Migden) or Assembly 13 (Leno). Given that both of these
incumbents are LGBT-identified, I'd love for us to have someone
similarly identified running for those spots. Is anyone else
interested? I need to check into whether I'm even qualified to run,
since I've only been back in San Francisco for 6 months (but I think
the requirement is one year as of election day, and it will be 18
months by then). Beyond that, we'd just need nominating signatures
and filing fees, and then we can run a respectable paper campaign even
if all of us are busy with work and other commitments.

Given our level of volunteer activity, I think it would be easier for
us to raise the $6000 to run candidates for the five partisan offices
than it will be to gather enough signatures in-lieu to offset those
filing fees.

I'm personally willing to pledge $100 per office toward these filing
fees (for $500 total if we fill our partisan slate -- more, of course,
if I'm one of the candidates myself). Is anyone else willing to make
a pledge of financial support? If a dozen others match my pledge,
we're done.

Rob

Me too.

Jeremy

Just want to verify -- all those who pledged $100 to help with filing
fees are willing to do so for any Libertarian, not just LPSF members,
right?

Kevin Peterson, who is in LP San Mateo, is considering a run for CD12
which overlaps two counties, and the question came up as to whether
the LPSF pledges are still valid for him. Mine is. How about the
rest of you?

If Phil runs for CD-8 and Kevin Peterson in San Mateo runs for CD-12,
that still leaves 3 partisan slots on the SF ballot that we need
candidates for. Is anyone willing to run for them?

We still need candidates for

> State Senator District 3
> State Assembly District 12
> State Assembly District 13

Paper candidates are totally fine -- you don't have to attend
candidate forum events or debates or whatever if you don't want to or
don't have time to. We just need respectable people (for the voter
guide bios and statements) to be on the ballot with an L next to their
name.

Is anyone interested?

If you like, you can have all your campaign materials come to the LPSF
mailbox, and we should even be able to get you an lpsf.org email
address and website. I bet we could even find volunteers willing to
fill out candidate surveys for you and do other stuff like that if
you're extremely busy.

We also need more pledgers for helping out with the filing fees. We
currently have pledges totaling $600/candidate. The filing fees for
the three remaining offices are $1200, so another six $100 pledgers
(or 12 $50 pledgers or 3 $200 pledgers or 1 $600 pledger, etc.) would
probably help convince some folks to run.

For instance, I'd be willing to put my name on the ballot, but after
what I'm spending on travel this year already for existing LP Platform
Committee and county chair commitments (LSLA in Vegas, LPC in San
Diego, and LNC in Denver), Kai will divorce me ("Stop spending our
condo downpayment!") if I spend another $1100 on LP stuff (I got
permission for my $100/candidate pledge, but I'd need another $600 to
fill the gap to get myself on the ballot). I'm sure there are others
in the same boat as I am. More pledges would really help.

Finally, Phil seems willing to run a more-than-paper campaign for CD-8
against Pelosi if someone steps forward to volunteer as his campaign's
Treasurer. Is anyone willing to do that?

Thanks in advance for your help!
