Libertarian support for Bradley Manning / SF Pride controversy

Angela,

The message I sent to the LNC below is fine to republish too. It was just an email and not a full-fledged article, so I'm not too concerned if you want to rephrase it in your own words, as long as you don't attribute any significant changes you might make to me. If you have time, I'd be interested in seeing your revisions before you send them out, but it's not essential.

By the way, I'm confused -- are you the Outright secretary, or is Mike? I credited him with that title in my IPR piece, but just noticed your signature below. If I made a mistake, I'd like to fix it.

I attended a forum tonight with 40 or 50 Bradley Manning supporters at the meeting of the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, a local group on the left side of SF politics. I wish you all could have been there, as there were lots of terrific comments and ideas. I'll try to write up my notes at some point.

I announced our torch parade idea, and made contact with Michael Thurston(sp?) who is the Bay Area coordinator for the Bradley Manning Support Network (the folks who run BradleyManning.org). He said they have a full-time national staff, and it sounds like some funding. Nobody really responded to the torch parade idea with enthusiasm, but it was during Q&A so it wasn't exactly a moment where everybody could just chime in, and nobody voiced any criticism or concern either. Michael said he was glad we were doing something in July, as they don't have much planned for then.

There's a local ad hoc group, unaffiliated with BMSN, that's working on supporting Bradley in the whole SF Pride parade issue. They had a meeting Sunday which I unfortunately didn't hear about, and will be having another one this Sunday at the offices of Global Exchange, 2017 Mission Street (at 16th St.), 7:00 pm. Unfortunately I'll probably be out of town and unable to make it, so if John Bechtol or someone else can go and represent us, that would be good.

Love & Liberty,
