Iraqi Citizens AND Home Protection Weapons

Dear Everyone;

An interesting article from Iraq about neighborhood people fighting back against terrorists. I have highlighted two main sentences which tells the tale.

Too bad we have laws against such home protection for us in the good old USA. Makes you wonder which country has more freedom when it comes to protecting your home and family.

Baghdad residents battle terrorists

BAGHDAD -- Shopkeepers and residents on one of Baghdad's main streets pulled out their own guns yesterday and killed three hooded terrorists who were shooting at passers-by, giving a rare victory to civilians increasingly frustrated by the violence bleeding Iraq.
    The clash in the capital's southern Doura neighborhood erupted when terrorists in three cars sprayed bullets at shoppers. Three persons -- a man, a woman and a child -- were wounded.

As the gunmen emerged from their cars, Dhia and his young relatives shouldered their Kalashnikov rifles and opened fire, the police and witnesses said. In the fierce gun battle that followed, three of the insurgents were killed, and the rest fled just after the police arrived. Two of Dhia's nephews and a bystander were wounded, the police said.

The motive was not clear, but there have been previous attacks in the ethnically mixed neighborhood.

A forceful citizen response is rare, but not unheard of in a country where conflict has become commonplace and the law allows each home to have a weapon.
