Introduction

Peter asked >> Right now, I am a registered Independent. My question is-- do I need to be a registered Libertarian in order to participate in the local party? <<

Chris said >> There is a requirement that party officers be registered as
Libertarians, if they are registered to vote, but not for anyone else. <<

Close enough for Peter's purpose, but not totally accurate. All internal LPC elected officers (all levels from county officers to our NatComm rep's) and candidates for public office must be registered Libertarian, if eligible. To be a LPC member (which also means to be a county party member) you cannot be registered to another party, though you can be registered as an independent (decline-to-state, not "American Independent") or not registered at all.

"No state central committee member shall be a registrant of or hold office in any political party other than the Libertarian Party." (Bylaws 5.1)

A state central committee member is an ordinary state/county dues-paying voting member.
