Despite the extremely frustrating fact that LPC is having its state party
convention this year not in California, but instead in Wayne Root's turf
(Nevada), I have to say that the LPC's new voter registration efforts are a
welcome improvement. I've been saying since long before Top Two passed that
it was very dangerous for our state party to only qualify for ballot access
via our percentage of the statewide vote totals, and that we should at the
same time also try to meet the threshold for ballot access via having enough
registered voters. It's sad that Top Two had to pass for LPC to start
caring about voter registration, but better late than never.
So, I highly recommend that LPSF take advantage of these resources for voter
registration (the big sign, the tri-fold "Libertarian Centrist" brochures,
and the stickers) and try to find opportunities to register new voters (even
if it's only SF Pride). With the ever narrowing list of activities that
political parties can engage in, voter registration (which also helps our
mailing list development, since City Hall makes voter registration rolls
available to us) seems like an even more value-added activity than it was
before.
Of course, I'll not be here for long, so take my advice for what it's worth,
with the full knowledge that I won't be around to help execute the plan.
