How much debt did each President pile up?

Hi All,

I found this article interesting. The chart shows U.S. debt under each U.S. president as a percentage of GDP. Interesting for instance, that the Revolutionary and Civil Wars left debt behind as expected, but leaders felt that it had to be paid back. Now, it seems that a permanent pile of debt is just fine. Or, looking at the situation in reverse, the old timers knew that a healthy GDP was essential for everyone's prosperity.
