(this post pertains to this video

This is kind of unrelated...err...totally unrelated to this group, but
still very important to me, so I thought I'd bring it up.

As you folks may or may not know, I'm a vegan (except that I do still
have a few leather items that it would be infeasible to part with
until a suitable substitute could be found).

Well, I recently watched a PETA video which revealed to me that the
meat industry is 1000 times worse than I actually thought it was for
this last decade that I've spent vegetarian. When I watched it, I was
so outraged and so upset, I wrote a letter to my friends and family
telling them that I would no longer talk to any of them ever again, so
long as they continued to support this brutal terrible barbaric industry.

Upon further thought and discussion, I realized that it would be
unproductive to simply cut people out of my life. But this issue is
of incredible importance to me. I don't see it as a "personal
choice". I think that if you inflict cruel and unnatural suffering
upon an intelligent feeling animal, people should be able to stop you
with the same force they'd use if you were slitting the throat of
someone's pet dog, or even whacking at a kid with a baseball bat.

For all the years I ate meat, fully aware that I really should be a
vegatarian, I justified it by saying it would just be too inconvenient
not to eat meat. But once I stopped, I realized that it really isn't
that big of a deal. The milk and egg industry is far worse to animals
than is the meat industry, and it is hard to deal with going totally
vegan, but it's totally worth it. I don't have a problem with hunting
animals who live in their natural environments, and killing them in a
quick and humane manner for practical reasons; but what's sick about
what these PETA videos show, is that these animals live terrible
horrible sickening lives, and are murdered in brutal and inhumane
ways, that I feel no intelligent sane person should want to support.
So whether you folks agree with me or not, I beg and plead with you to
at least watch the video above, and at least do what you can to buy
free range eggs, and eat organic and "free range" meat as much as
possible. By at least testing your convictions to your beliefs by
watching this video, I think you will be doing a benefit to yourselves.

Sincerely,
Clay

If you're interested in this sort of thing, you might want to check out
out movie "Megacities". I don't eat red meat already, and that movie
turned me off to chicken as well for a time.

On a lighter note, here's a video of a prank played on a PETA member:

Clay,

I'm a long-time vegan myself.

There are so few libertarians in the world, we owe it to the cause to live as long as possible. We've lost many star libertarians to high-animal-protein, high-fat diets: Roger McBride, Roy Childs, Murray Rothbard, (not Ayn Rand, smoking killed her), Dyanne Petersen, Joe Fuhrig, Bill Bradford, and probably Harry Browne, to name a few.

Best, Michael
