FYI

I should let you all know that I've changed my voter registration from
Libertarian to Republican.

While I think Libertarians on average are way more intelligent, better
debaters, and in general more fun, I also believe that the most
important battles for liberty today are being fought in the Republican
primaries. I'm talking about the fight amongst true believers in
limited-government and civil liberties on the one hand and
big-government careerists and the theocrats on the other.

The views I've espoused here haven't changed, and I'm sure many
Republicans will find my views on civil liberties, drugs,
prostitution, public schools, immigration, etc. strange. (Just as
many LIbertarians found my views on abortion and national defense
untenable). However, to continue this fight in a party where the
presidential candidate can only muster 0.34% of the national vote
seems to me to be fruitless. The two-party system in this country is
just too strong.

My strategy will be to donate to and to assist in electing Republicans
whom I believe truly support limited government while supporting
strong civil liberties. In the case where there is no Republican
candidate matching this criteria, I'll be voting Libertarian (the
California's governor race for instance).

I've made some good friendships and acquaintances among Libertarians
here in the city, and I hope such kindred spirit in the fight to
shrink government continues.

Thanks for letting us know, Derek, and for giving us your reasons.

Just as a reminder, one can be registered with another designation and
still be a member of the Libertarian Party. I look forward to your
continued input on the mailing list and perhaps your help with the ballot
initiatives.

Dear Derek,

I am also adding my thanks for your candor. Although I am very sorry
to see you leave the Party, I must agree that being a member of a
Party so very few people ever heard of defeats ones' hopes for making
a difference in our current political environment.

Best wishes and best regards,

Marcy
