Want to learn more about accessing public records and doing journalism?

The First Amendment Coalition will be hosting a free training session on this August 6 at KQED (see details in message below). Could also be a good opportunity to meet and lobby folks at the local National Public Radio station. I’d love to have some of us meet with some of their folks and try to get them to improve their coverage of libertarianism, the LP, and viewpoint diversity in their coverage generally.

Reporters who broke big stories based on public records will take you
behind the headlines to share lessons learned and tips you can use in your
own reporting. This session will cover strategies for acquiring public
records, tricks for overcoming barriers, ideas for stories that have
impact, plus legal expertise from the First Amendment Coalition.

accountability reporting. Learn how she obtained and used public records to
answer key questions about why a popular UC Berkeley professor was

Loy runs FAC’s free Legal Hotline, which provides educational information
about the California Public Records Act, other public access laws and the
First Amendment. He will share expertise on how to overcome barriers to
public information and resources available.
