FW: Bloomberg says US dollar to be replaced

Mike, could you point me to the sentence where it says that the dollar
will be replaced and merged into an international currency?

All I'm seeing is an article saying that the dollar is no longer
supreme in the international currency market, something we all knew a
few years ago when Bush started devaluing it. All this article says
is that now other countries' currencies are just as often compared to
a Euro or one of the Asian currencies as they're compared to a dollar,
which is why the international currency market is now "tri-polar"
instead of being based almost entirely on the US dollar.

In short, Bloomberg didn't "admit" anything, as far as I can tell.

I'm very, very, very worried about the amount of Libertarian time and
effort wasted on "new world order" conspiracy theories like an "Amero"
currency and such, when there are real issues like secret prisons,
illegal wars, illegal wiretapping, "free speech zones," FDA meddling,
the drug war, unlimited eminent domain powers, gun bans,
constitutional amendments to discriminate against minorities, and on
and on and on...

When we waste time fretting about an "Amero" currency that has very
little likelihood of happening in my lifetime, we let these other much
more immediate issues which should be of concern to libertarians
happen without any opposing effort from us.

I hate to dominate the discussion with Prop 8, but to my knowledge,
the only two Libertarians who have volunteered time to phone voters
and ask them to Vote NO on 8 have been Angela Keaton and myself. If
folks here would like to do something to help Liberty TODAY, rather
than fretting about something that _may_ happen many decades from now,
I encourage them to visit

http://www.noonprop8.com/action/phone-bank

and volunteer to phone bank. I know there are some folks on this list
not in San Francisco, and they too can help using the third option
"Phone from home," which works anywhere in the country.

There are also other issues that people can be working on. I'm
looking for volunteers for the LPSF booth at Ed Rosenthal's Wonders of
Cannabis this weekend in Golden Gate Park. And there are all sorts of
anti-Libertarian things on the ballot this year (though I don't have
direct links to how you can get involved in them like I do for No on
8). Pick one issue and work on it.

Libertarians spend too much time in these discussion lists and blog
comment areas and such. We have just two weeks until the election.
Let's make the Libertarian voice heard with our activism these next
two weeks!

Because nobody is reading our opinions other than fellow libertarians.

It didn't say that...it said that the dollar was being integrated into a
"tri-polar'' global currency system is developing between Asia, Europe
and the U.S.) The key words here are "global currency system". Believe
me this will NOT be a international free trade in currencies system.

Here are a few quotes to remember.

* Money plays the largest part in determining the course of
history

  * Karl Marx <http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Karl_Marx>
(Communist Manifesto)

* Let me issue and control a nation's money and I care not who
writes the laws.

  * Mayer Amschel Rothschild
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayer_Amschel_Rothschild> , 1790

* Those few who can understand the system (check book money and
credit) will either be so interested in its profits, or so dependent on
it favors, that there will be little opposition from that class, while
on the other hand, the great body of people mentally incapable of
comprehending the tremendous advantage that capital derives from the
system, will bear it burdens without complaint, and perhaps without even
suspecting that the system is inimical to their interests.

  * The Rothschild Brothers of London
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rothschild_banking_family_of_England>

The Euro wasn't a conspiracy theory and currently MERCOSUR, the South
American Trading zone partners (including Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
and Uruguay with Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela
as associate members) are discussing a mutual currency too. This is not
a conspiracy theory. My wife's friend in the diplomatic corps is on the
committee writing the plan and he is following this closely. So the idea
of financial sovereignty seems to be slipping into the darkness and it
is being replaced by more strong global central banking which is just
more central planning. History has shown this is the road to ruin for
the people. This Tower of Babel will fall taking countless people with
it.

Money like politics is best controlled close to home. This issue of
banking and currency was so important that it was a key component in our
Constitution. So being concerned about this development is hardly the
activity of nut-jobs. And certainly not an untimely issue politically.

The other issues you mention are important as well...but I'd say a
global currency system has got to be one of the biggest. And the
centralization of political power provided through the centralization of
banking is the root of the other issues you mention like "secret
prisons, illegal wars, illegal wiretapping, "free speech zones," FDA
meddling, the drug war, unlimited eminent domain powers, gun bans,
constitutional amendments to discriminate against minorities, and on
and on and on..."

In my humble opinion.

Mike

Dear Mike D., Rob, Peter, and All,

Those who have known me for a while have noticed how I foam at the
mouth regarding the LPSF being a "debate society"; So, I am with Rob
on his suggestion that we "do" more. HOWEVER, this is the DISCUSSION
list, and I submit that all interesting subjects remotely related to
the general topic of libertarian thinking should be welcome. We have
an ACTIVISTS list, where we can post our strategies for "doing."

Marcy

May I point out why we should read that article? Voters are worried about the economy. Very worried. The problem is not a conspiracy to force a new currency on the country; the problem is that the citizens may soon want one! Nobody will force it on them. But the world is discounting the dollar rapidly.

Scroll down a little bit to Phil Berg's post "US to pay tens of billions to gamblers" The US needs Libertarian economic policy now, more than ever. We should be helping the voters get our message.

Excellent point made by Harland that voters will "want" a new currency
if they think the dollar has become a liability to them. Just as
voters wanted the New Deal, for example. And yes, this is the time to
speak of the libertarian alternatives. Rob is working on developing
an electronic LPSF Newsletter, probably through Constant Contact; when
it comes about, LPSF will need promotion of that venue.

I feel that doing activism and discussing issues does not need to be an either/or. Both, imho, are crucial to the libertarian movement. I don't think I need to spell out for anyone the problem with all debate and no action, but all action and no discussion would neglect an important educational opportunity, lessen our sense of community, and leave us more vulnerable to activist energy being hijacked for non-libertarian activism.

I'm not sure to what extent the whole "North American Union" story may be a conspiracy theory. But it seems to be getting fairly wide traction despite little attention from the mainstream media. Last Thursday after the panel I took part in at the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing, one of the students who stayed to chat with me brought up the Amero on her own without any prompting and seemed to credit the possibility. She was also a 9/11 skeptic, but seemed to be fairly well informed and generally left-of-center on the conventional spectrum. Said her boyfriend was a Ron Paul supporter.

Love & Liberty,
        ((( starchild )))

Thank you, Peter!
