From Lew Rockwell: Your career is your calling, not your job. Dont get them confused

Dear Everyone;

Gary North, a regular Lew Rockwell columnist, occassionally has good pithy comments on education and learning and self. This column highlights some common-sense commentary on career vs. job. Thoughtful stuff.

P.S. Tuesday Nov. 2 is Election Day and as they say in Chicago: Vote early and often no matter how long you have been dead.

P.PS. Is Ohio due to become the new Election Day Florida or is it going to be Colorado? Or is it going to be a whole bunch of states having their votes challenged? Are we becoming another Banana Republic or is it just my imagination?

Thank you to Ron for the wonderful article on finding your calling vs
finding a job. One more thing about Linda Ronstadt: I read
somewhere once that people (and women in particular) should reinvent
themselves every 10 years or so. A few weeks ago I head Linda on an
interview on NPR's "Latino USA". Linda's enthusiasm lighted up my
whole room. She has reinvented herself once again -- this time as
a "stay at home Mom."

Dear Amarcy;

The mention of Linda Ronstadt in the article brought back the memory of when Jerry Brown went on an African vacation with Linda Ronstadt and they had reporters camping on their doorstep wanting to know if the couple was now an item. Back then it was HOT NEWS!!!

Now if I could only figure out what my calling is against figuring out what my job is.

Hmmm...

I can't believe that Gary North does not recognize the heavy religous
connotations of the term "calling" ('vocation', Latin vocare, to
voice, ref. invoke, evoke; also 'profession', as in 'to profess', to
give or bear witness), particularly given the religious meaning
Calvinism infusrd into work generally. He undoubtadly means, at some
level, that to fulfill one's calling is to do God's work in the world.

I wonder what he would say if some of us recieved callings to
employments I doubt Dr. North or most Christian Reconstructionists
would approve of. Maybe his God works in /very/ mysterious ways!!

There is more than one reason prostitution is called 'the world's
oldest profession.'
