What do say we start the "Committee to Stop Gun Violence" as a sub-committee of the LP and enlist Brad Pit and Samuel Jackson as spokesmen?. We would focus on gun safety, technology, community and so on.
No more shoving gun-violence into the closet or into the underground, as was done with STD's, alcoholism, mental illness, etc. by hiding and banning sex, drinking, nudity and other insane, primitive, superstitious, statist solutions.
People should be able to have guns as well as their genitals!! Get used to it!

Mike,
Excellent! I guess it's you and I to start with.
I need to do some research to find their agents, unless you have another route.
How much do you think we can raise with their help?
I wonder if Chuck Norris would endorse the safety program?
Earlier, I called Billy Graham's ministry to see about the clergy standing with us to protect the children. This is a crucial segment to align.
Endorsement at that level is no slam-dunk. We need to get our credentials together.
But no problems so far. It was a nice chat.
John
Prospective press release:
"Libertarians Launch a Campaign to Protect the Children".
Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie, spokespersons for the Committee to End Gun Violence appear...
Your idea is great, and I wish you success. What organization would you be using as the sponsor for your efforts, or are you thinking more in the line of individual grass roots effort? I ask because you mentioned raising funds for your cause.
Like you Michael, I'm short on time...but I liked the idea of tying the gun issue to other causes like personal choice in the bedroom et... And showing how forcing issues like this into the "closet" as with other prohibitions is simply not healthy if not downright silly.
We need good articles to post on the LPSF website. I will be happy to post yours with you as author, etc. Good to have a timely article on this difficult subject.
Mike, Michael, and Marcy,
Our message must be carefully crafted. "Easier access..." is not what we really want to convey. We want to convey that it is important to protect children and that it is OK to have guns to do it. As soon as it is OK, every sensible and responsible adult will do what it takes to protect their children.
What we are fighting is the collective unconscious saying it is not OK to have guns and that guns are bad. This has been driven into the collective unconsciousness as thoroughly as witchcraft in the 15th century.
But even worse, it has been done at the expense of innocent children, not to mention the thousands of other defenseless victims.
