but rather it's the subsequent tax that is illegitimate.

Also true. What I was also trying to point out is the pimping - pandering politicians were prostituting for votes one way or another. By giving a tax break to farmers the other taxpayers got stuck with picking up the slack. Did the politicians care? Nope!
And when the pols way didn't turn out so good the pols went back and tried their bestest to extract revenge taxes. The only ones paying were the farmers who still ended up selling to developers and the developers who got hit with revenge back-taxes.
On a personal note. This happened to a relative of mine who was a long time farmer. Whose farm land taxes kept going up and up as suburbia closed in on them. Even with the farmers tax break still ended up selling to a developer. Nobody won except the politicians. Good farm land became a housing development. The town had more homes to tax. More tax money came in to spend on stupid pet what can I do to spend other poeples money to keep me in office spending by the local politicians.
ANY tax create losers - stop all taxes! Ring The Bell to stop all taxes!

Exactly... I wouldn't think this was a difficult concept to
understand. Even when tax break are tied to increases in the marginal
rate for most taxpayers, as in Rob's illustration, the tax break part
of that package *still* isn't bad. Rob, think of it like attaching a
bill allowing more gay marriage to a tax increase. That wouldn't make
gay marriage bad, even if political "magicians" were using the issue to
distract the public so they could pass something much more anti-liberty
along with it.

Very true. However, as the article pointed out the politicians who

retroactively charged back-taxes to the developers and the

Special interest tax breaks help the targeted tax group (or those

get in using loopholes) pay lower taxes. This is all to the good,
since tax breaks reduce revenue to the govt--not to mention that

Rob, think of it like attaching a bill allowing more gay marriage to a tax increase. That wouldn't make gay marriage bad, even if political "magicians" were using the issue to distract the public so they could pass something much more anti-liberty along with it.
