DEFINITIVE ANALYSIS OF THE 2d AMENDMENT - WHAT A TREAT!

       The U.S. Department of Justice has just released an intensive

noon8window.pdf (36 Bytes)

Dear Dr. Mike;

Get a copy of this to SF Supervisor Chris Daly and the other 4 Supervisors who signed on to the Daly Gun Ban Legislation: Gonzalez - Alioto-Pier - Ammiano - Dufty. Then get a copy to the other Supervisors for their erudition and Mayor Newsom. Then the local newspapers and the local TV stations.

I have sent a full copy to all of the above of the Executive Summary of The 2000 SF Public Health Report On Guns from which Daly cherry-picked statistics which was used to draw up his flawed legislation.

In a more perfect world the Daly legislation should have read:

                                 City and County of San Francisco
                                        Gun Ban Ordinance

Paragraph 1:

We hereby enact the banning of poorly educated, African-American adult males, in their 20-30's, who are repeat felon drug dealers and are involved in further drug dealing from residing in or transiting the regions of San Francisco known as the Bayview/Hunters Point, The Inner Mission and The Western Addition. The banning goes doubly for the 50% of the above African-Americans who are currently hopped up on drugs and are carrying an un-licensed, un-registered and not un-loaded handgun or two.

Paragraph 2:

We hereby ban handgun use throughout the city of San Francisco for those individuals who would use a hand gun to commit suicide.

Paragraph 3:

We strongly recommend individuals contemplating suicide to take full advantage of the easily accessible Golden Gate Bridge and to go take a flying leap.

Unfortunately, at this time, the Supervisors are on their holiday recess until Jan.4 and the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected Supervisors. So no too much can be done with them but lots can be done with all the others.

However, copies ready to be handed out at that ceremony should make for an interesting swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Supervisors.

Yeee Hah!!! or is it more like: Whooo Hooo !!!

Ron,

  Unfortunately, I think this would tend to come off as racist and insensitive and hurt our cause. Especially if you add personal touches like "Yee-hah!" I appreciate the point I presume you're trying to make, that violent gun crime is concentrated among a relatively small group of San Franciscans, but can't we find a more convincing and less inflammatory way of making it? If you are bent on distributing it as is, I respectfully ask that you not mention Libertarians or the Libertarian Party.

Dear Starchild;

Perhaps you may read to much into the e-mail.

The main paragraph was just about sending the Dept of Justice report to the Supervisors.

The rest was verbiage.

However, the SF Dept of Public Health Gun Report Executive Summary was very specific about who and what the gun violence was all about. Especially after removing the percentages relating to suicides. THEY did not pull any punches in their report.

The SATIRICAL part about what Daly's gun ban should've been was based very specifically on the Executive Summary as reported by the SF Dept of Public Health. It was not cherry picked like the statistics Daly used at the beginning of his ordinance.

If it appears rascist it's because it is very sad and unfortunate that the greatest percentage of the gun violence as reported has been by African-Americans. There is no way of softening this. The report from the SF Dept of Public Health did not soften this part of their report.

It is extremely dis-heartening when a group of individuals gets all the publicity for their bad deeds creating an unforgiveable impression of all African-Americans living in the effected neighborhoods. A stone thrown in a still pond creates ripples all over the place. Then this gets topped off by a Supervisor cynically cherry-picking this data to propose a gun ban on all San Franciscans.

Starchild, I would not personally distribute anything of any kind ever as being official Libertarian Party policy. I leave that up to designated party officials who have been given the authority to do so based on their positions in the party and based on party votes to do so.

Starchild, I am not so dense as to send out anything claiming it's on behalf of Libertarians.

The only time I include Libertarian is when I send a Letter to the Editor about issues which are
contrary to Libertarian view points. Then I identify myself personally as a Libertarian. However, the newspapers who have printed my LTE's have not included the Libertarian moniker.

All of the LTE's which have been printed are available in the newspapers archives. After reviewing them I am certain you will agree they pointed out Libertarian principles but did not besmirch, besmear or otherwise bring discredit on the Libertarian Party. Even when they did not include the identifying Libertarian moniker.

When I sent copies of the Executive Summary to the Supervisors and the press and the TV stations it was myself doing so without any affiliation added or mentioned. And stating the Daly gun ban ordinance used cherry-picked statistics. And please read the Executive Summary.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
