De Young Museum Grand Opening This Weekend - 31 Hours Round-The-Clock Party!!

This should be a lot of fun as well as a chance to see the newly reopened museum for free. With lots of people and media undoubtedly on hand, it's also a great outreach opportunity for us to go and set up an outreach table -- they can hardly object to free speech on a sidewalk in the park. If we can think up a clever sign or something to tie in with the museum, we could well get press coverage. For more info on the opening, see <http://www.thinker.org/deyoung/visiting/subpage.asp?subpagekey=885>.

de Young Museum Grand Opening

Saturday, October 15 - Sunday, October 16

Open around the clock • Free General Admission

The de Young celebrates its re-opening in Golden Gate Park with a 31-hour museum marathon, FREE to the public!

Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m., and the museum will be open continuously from NOON on October 15 until 5 p.m. October 16. The opening weekend program includes music, dancing, food and a full schedule of performances by local groups throughout the museum grounds. To memorialize the occasion, a photo opportunity station will be located near the historic sphinx sculptures.

Getting to the de Young
We strongly encourage visitors to the de Young Grand Opening festivities to take public transportation to Golden Gate Park. With easy connections from the Ferry Building, BART, CalTrain and regional transit stops, Muni provides convenient and frequent bus and light rail service to the Park from throughout the city.

Driving & Parking
The Music Concourse Garage is open 7 days a week from 7:30 am to 10 p.m. year-round and parking in the garage is encouraged. Entrance at 10th Ave. and Fulton St. Parking will also be available in the UCSF Parking Garage. A free shuttle arranged by the museum will transport visitors from UCSF to the de Young. The pick up and drop off point is on 2nd Ave. and Irving St.

Starchild,

Thanks for the announcement. A suggestion if anyone is willing to
table this event: carry some voter registration cards. Today Morey
Straus and I braved the Safeway at Church and market. Both the
security guard and one of the store managers headed our way with
threatening looks, only to look at our voter registration cards and
tell us "no problem."

BTW, our tabling was not very productive; we have to figure out
better venues.

Marcy
PS. Thank you, Morey!!
