Dear Phil and Everyone Else;
This is an article about what was happening from back in December of last year from lew rockwell:

Milk price fixing is still going on in California. Read this article from the Saturday SF Chronicle. I sent an LTE to the Chronicle about the milk price fixing but still don't know if they will publish.

Dear Letters;
The article [“Got Money?”, 6-30-06] highlights what happens when governments meddle with free markets. The California Department of Food and Agriculture setting milk prices instead of consumer demand setting milk prices forces consumers to continually pay higher prices for milk. Unfortunately, overlaying this and driving rising cost factors are federal price support, subsidy and protective tariffs for the agricultural industry.
The end result is always the same – consumers pay through the nose so government bureaucrats look like they are doing something utile. It is economically impossible for government bureaucrats to predicate cost factors of production and distribution against consumer demand for the product and derive mandatory market prices which are meaningful.
Stop the state and federal government from forcibly taking money from taxpayers through price supports, tariffs and subsidies and let the free market determine the prices consumers will pay for agricultural products based on consumer demand.
