Even an aggressive bully may occasionally serve the cause of justice by bullying other bullies...

Huuumm.. I am hoping that by justice you are referring to, say, the Mayor and Supervisors could receive half their salary, or no salary at all, and what they make go towards more homeless shelters. That arrangement would not entail the injustice of me being forced to pay more taxes so the City could build more shelters.
BTW, I don't feel good about the Feds poking their noses into City business.

I would support that salary plan in a heartbeat, Marcy! But the injustice I was talking about was criminalizing people just for being in the commons and not violating anyone else's rights. Given the choice, many homeless people would rather just pitch tents than use the shelters, as unpleasant, inconvenient, dangerous, etc., as they often are. Constructing more shelters at taxpayer expense is I think mainly done to politically appease those who want the homeless off the streets no matter where they are sent, rather than to truly benefit the homeless.
I don't generally like the Feds being poking their noses in city business either -- things like seeking to have local law enforcement turn over undocumented migrants to them are abominable.
