In response, Senator Darrel Steinberg has asked the accused Senator to resign, in supplication to the power of the a criminal executive branch.

The admitted gun runners, Fast and Furious US DOJ, have arrested, handcuffed, paraded, and accused a California Senator of gun-running.
In response, Senator Darrel Steinberg has asked the accused Senator to resign, in supplication to the power of a criminal federal executive agency.
When the executive can depose a Senator by accusation, with supplication by the legislature, the republic has slipped under the waves.
This is a fully instituted police-state.
Taxpayers paid for its five-year long investigation of Senator Yee, while the taxpayers paid for the DOJ to provide weapons for Mexican organized crime.
Meanwhile, the police-state is totally unaccountable to the people, at the same time it neutralizes the people's representation.
Of course the democrats will throw the Senator under the bus in favor of collectivist power. I wonder if the Republicans will take a stand for the republic.

Yes, that is certainly a legitimate concern... But who more than legislators, with their ability to cut off funding -- or in the case of state legislators, to end state-level law enforcement cooperation with the Feds -- are in a position to rein in executive branch agencies? And what will better motivate them to do so than some of their own being targeted by those agencies? As long as the FBI and DOJ have money and a mission they are going to be investigating something... on the whole I would rather that something be the legislative branch than groups or individuals in the voluntary sector, wouldn't you? Now if a pattern develops of them going after legislators who are causing headaches for them (trying to reduce their funding or whatever), that would be a different story. Do you see evidence that's the case?
I don't think Darrel Steinberg's call for Yee to resign came at the behest of the FBI or (In)justice Department. I doubt they care much whether Yee resigns now or not. I think the state senate majority leader was feeling or anticipating the heat from constituents who don't want serious corruption in the legislature, and from his fellow Democrats who don't want to be seen as coddling it.

Sure, good points. i would have been nice in Steinberg had said something about "innocent until proven guilty". And especially in the the time frame of a "five year investigation", it's undoubtedly a "Fast and Furious" operation, hugely tainted by corruption.
