For the time being, I am using "Republican" and "American" to describe such persons.
"Liberal consetvative" works also, but it confuses the novice.

I will take "Republican," since "American" just tells me someone was born within the boundaries of the US or chose to become a naturalized citizen of the US -- lots of people with sometimes widely different ideologies. You are right; today "liberal-conservative" is a contradiction in terms.
