Activist Forum for this Wednesday (December 17) - 7pm, SF (additional related events below)

WHO: Robin Few of Sex Workers Outreach Project and Americans for Safe Access (Medical Marijuana)
WHAT: What these groups have been doing locally and the possibilities for Libertarian collaboration
WHEN: Wednesday, December 17, 7-10pm*
WHERE: Sheesh Mahal Indian restaurant, 1117 Polk Street at Post (SF)

NOTE: In response to a suggestion, starting this month the Direct Action Forum is being renamed the Activist Forum, in order not to confuse the event with street protests sometimes called "direct actions" while retaining the essential meaning and flavor of an event geared toward hands-on politics and accomplishing change for liberty.

Our speaker for this month's Activist Forum is a dynamic young activist who has accomplished a great deal for the local medical marijuana movement, and has more recently turned to organizing an SF-area chapter of the international organization SWOP seeking to decriminalize prostitution. This is our chance to learn what's been going on with these groups, and discuss future plans and a draft of proposed legislation SWOP is seeking to introduce. Due to time constraints, Robin will join us from 730 to 830pm, however we'll be there from 7pm on and guests are welcome as usual to stay for discussion until the restaurant closes at 10pm if there is interest.

Preceding this event, there will be a memorial event from 5 to 7pm in Civic Center Plaza (Polk and McAllister streets) for the victims of the "Green River Killer" and murdered sex workers around the world. Annie Sprinkle, Carol Leigh ("Scarlet Harlot") and Tom Ammiano are expected to speak. Bring candles, songs and poetry to commemorate the lives stolen in Seattle and elsewhere. For those free during the day, there are also related events in Oakland and Berkeley starting in the morning, including a panel on decriminalizing prostitution. Please see http://www.swop-usa.org/ for further details.

The Activist Forum is a project of the Libertarian Party of San Francisco. It is free and open to the public -- your own tab is on you if you wish to join us for dinner or drinks, but no purchase is required. Activist Forums happen on the third Wednesday evening each month. We're always looking for suggestions for speakers and topics that have a local angle. I hope to see you there!

Yours in liberty,
