BILL TO KILL LIBERTARIAN PARTY
Monday, February 13, 2006 - FreeMarketNews.com
NEWS ANALYSIS
The 'Net gravely damaged the credibility of the Democratic party during the Clinton years by spotlighting its tremendous corruption, cronyism and hypocrisy - and 'Net blogs and commentators have done the same thing to the Republicans during the Bush years. This is not good for either major party since, for the first time in generations, a fairly well informed electorate is disgusted with the available political choices and searching for an alternative. That alternative is probably along the lines of classical liberalism, the idea that less government is preferable to more.
Ironically, the only party currently representing that point of view with any potential to join the mainstream is the Libertarian Party. Thus, no doubt, the reason new, anti-third party legislation is being rushed along. The Libertarian party recently issues a press release calling attention to Bill H.R. 4694, ironically named the "Let the People Decide Clean Campaign Act." The Libertarian Party release called the bill an attempt to "end viable, third-party competition in races for the U.S. House of Representatives."
