Dear Mike,
Informative, thank you. And, no, I was not expecting the punchline!
Marcy
The election was no "accident". The people got what they thought they
wanted. Of course, if you think an administration has the right to rig
elections to perpetuate themselves, then perhaps, for once, the evil system
broke.
Now could be our last chance to repair our election system. Individuals
made an extraordinary effort to replace Republicans and elect Obama.
Citizens cared enough only because they perceived the Bush administration as
murderous torturers, liars, and thieves. Equal revulsion may not arise again
until a genocidal dictator takes control of DC.
Elections give the citizens what they want without resorting to violence.
Their purpose is to create a consensual government by accurately measuring
what the electorate desires. Our system fails because politicians can take
advantage of the rules to deny the people their true preference. The system
is broken, not the voters.
